League program enters its final stages

The big question on everyone's lips at the moment is:-

Who will end up Gwynedd League Champions?

In the most fascinating climax in the 30 year history of the League, it looks like it will go down to the final week.

Y Felinheli who are currently in pole position and having come from behind to beat Bontnewydd 4-3 last weekend faltered last night at Menai Bridge Tigers, losing 5-2, and now have only one League match left, at home to fellow title contenders Llanllyfni on the 12th May, a match they must now win to stand any chance of clinching the title. Second placed Llanllyfni who have 3 matches left and two points behind Y Felinheli must feel they are in the driving seat, however, they face a tricky away match at Llanrug next week before travelling to Felinheli and finally host other title hopefuls Llanystumdwy in what may prove to be, the winner takes all. Long time leaders Bontnewydd, who have suffered back to back defeats at home to Llanllyfni and then away at Y Felinheli have two matches left, away at Llanberis next week and at home to Llanystumdwy must feel that nothing short of the maximum six points may be enough. Finally, Llanystumdwy, playing catch up are currently eight points behind Y Felinheli with three games in hand and judging from their remaining matches, they will have to win all four, starting with two home games over the bank holiday weekend, first against Menai Bridge Tigers and then against neighbours Harlech Town on the Monday. Current table reads:-

Felinheli - played 27 points 61

Llanllyfni - played 25 points 59

Bontnewydd - played 26 points 59

Llanystumdwy - played 24 points 53
